Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - Army Accommodation.

367.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is satisfied with the number and quality of Army houses and other military accommodation in the Southern Command Area and Cork in particular; the steps, if any, he proposes to take to improve the present unsatisfactory situation where the Naval Service has only 22 married quarters, which are in very poor condition, to cater for its increasing establishment; and if he will give details, including locations, of the existing accommodation and of that planned for Army and Naval personnel in the area.

There is a total of 192 married quarters for non-commissioned personnel in the Southern Command area. Thirty of those quarters have been built since 1961. Arrangements will be made as resources permit for the replacement of all unsuitable married quarters. Details regarding the married quarters including locations are contained in the following statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.
