Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - Communal Oil Service.

383.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy whether he intends to introduce legislation to control the activities of oil companies which engaged in the supply of a communal oil service for central heating purposes in residential estates.

I have no proposals for introducing legislation in this area. The Deputy will appreciate that this matter relates to the method of supply as distinct from the general availability of supply of a particular fuel which is the primary area of my responsibility. The method of supply of a fuel is a matter between the supplier and the customer.

I am aware that one of the four companies involved in communal or metered central heating oil systems have recently indicated their intention to withdraw from involvement in this type of operation and in this regard I would refer the Deputy to the statement which I made in the House on 27 May 1982 in reply to a question tabled by Deputy Bernard Allen.
