Vol. 338 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

251.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a £1,000 new house grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Louth.

A grant will be paid when an inspection establishes that the house has been satisfactorily completed and that the other conditions applying to the grant scheme have been complied with.

The inspection will be carried out as soon as possible.

252.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a £1,000 new house grant has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Louth.

Any delay in this case arose from the failure of the applicant to submit the necessary documents with his application. The grant will be paid shortly.

253.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will state, in view of the amount of correspondence relating to a house reconstruction grant application of a person (details supplied) in County Louth, the reason for his Department's failure to pay the grant in question.

Arrangements have been made for the payment of the grant in this case.

254.

asked the Minister for the Environment if a £1,000 new house grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Louth.

The grant was paid on 27 October 1982.

255.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his Department will pay a £600 grant in respect of the installation of solid fuel fireplaces and chimneys in Farnderg Estate, Dundalk, County Louth, which was constructed by the National Building Agency without installing normal flues which would be capable of being used for solid fuel appliances.

Should such an application be received in my Department, it can be taken that the necessary inspection will be arranged in the normal way and a decision in relation to eligibility for a grant conveyed as soon as possible. Apart from any other considerations, it is an absolute condition of the scheme of grants that work is not commenced before the initial inspection is carried out by the Department's inspector.

256.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in paying a £1,000 new house grant to a person (details supplied) in County Wicklow.

There has been no undue delay in my Department in dealing with this case. The grant will be paid when an inspection establishes that the flat has been satisfactorily completed. A number of attempts have, in fact, been made by the inspector concerned to inspect the flat but he was unable to gain access to it.

257.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he will pay a water and sewage grant to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford who applied to his Department at the same time as another person of the same name and address to whom both grants were paid.

It is understood that the Deputy is referring to a person of the name and address supplied but with the designation "Senior". A grant of £50 in respect of the provision of a water supply was paid in this case on 6 October 1978. The applicant did not receive the payable order and, following investigation of the matter locally by the Department, a further payable order for £50 issued to him on 22 July 1982. No application was received in this case for a grant for sewerage facilities.

258.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will pay a house improvement grant to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford who applied for it two months prior to inspection and who indicated the necessity of commencing work within six weeks.

Grants in respect of the provision of both a bathroom and bedroom could not be allowed in this case because, contrary to a qualifying condition of the scheme, the work had commenced before an inspection of the house was carried out; also, there was an existing chimney in the house and existing water and sewerage facilities and, accordingly, neither could grants for these purposes be allowed. The applicant has been so informed.

259.

asked the Minister for the Environment when funds will be made available for additional public lighting at Gort, County Galway.

Proposals for a scheme of additional public lighting at Gort have not been submitted to my Department. The question of providing finance for the scheme does not, therefore arise.
