Vol. 338 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Road Traffic Offences.

236.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will provide details of the number of summonses issued under the provisions of section 49 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, as amended by section 10 of the Road Traffic (Amendment) Act, 1978, since 1 September 1981 in Counties Kerry, Limerick and Roscommon.

237.

asked the Minister for Justice how many prosecutions under section 49 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, as amended by section 10 of the Road Traffic (Amendment) Act, 1978, failed to secure convictions in the Counties Kerry, Limerick and Roscommon since January 1982.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 236 and 237 together. With regard to Question No. 236, I am informed by the Garda authorities that the numbers of such summonses issued between 1 September 1981 and 25 October 1982 were 362 in County Kerry, 278 in County Limerick and 59 in County Roscommon.

With regard to Question No. 237, I am informed that the numbers of such court proceedings heard between 1 January 1982 and 25 October 1982 in which convictions were not recorded were five in County Kerry, three in County Limerick and two in County Roscommon.
