Vol. 338 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Students' Examination Fees.

257.

asked the Minister for Education if he has any proposals to waive examination fees for students who are unable to pay the increased amount.

Dublin South-East): My Department have examined the possibility of waiving examination fees for certain categories of candidates but has found that any such scheme would be impracticable in present financial circumstances. It has to be borne in mind that the amount collected in fees covers only part of the cost of running the certificate examinations.
