Vol. 339 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cavan and Monaghan Disadvantaged Areas.

422.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will report on the progress being made in relation to the reclassification of areas as severely disadvantaged in Counties Cavan and Monaghan.

423.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will ensure that all of Counties Monaghan and Cavan are reclassified as severely disadvantaged areas.

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 422 and 423 together.

An analysis of socio-economic data collected in respect of parts of Counties Cavan and Monaghan which, although designated as disadvantaged have not been classified as more severely handicapped, is at present being proceeded with in my Department. This is being undertaken in conjunction with similar data for the many other areas throughout the country also under consideration. The analysis is a prelude to an examination being carried out in due course by the Government and, eventually, by the commission of the case for further adjustments to the disadvantaged areas boundaries here.
