Vol. 339 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Grants.

50.

Mr. Leonard

asked the Minister for Finance the amount allocated to date in Border counties from the European Regional Development Fund (Non-the-cloc Quota) for grants and marketing aid for craft industries; and the counties which have been benefited.

51.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give a complete list of the projects which have been approved for 1982 under the EEC regional fund for tourist-related cross-Border improvements; and whether any decision has yet been taken on the projects to be approved for 1983.

52.

Mr. Leonard

asked the Minister for Finance (a) the amount paid to each Border county since October 1980 from the special fund for Border counties and totally financed by the Exchequer and the non-quota section of the European Regional Development Fund; (b) the list of projects grant aided in each county; (c) the list of semi-State bodies who benefited from the Fund; and the amount paid to them.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 50, 51 and 52 together.

The total amount paid to each Border county from the Special Border Area Programme Fund since October 1980 was as follows:

1980

1981

1982

Donegal

1,195,944.00

664,870.00

Leitrim

189,530.00

192,671.00

Cavan

270,149,00

230,053.00

Monaghan

100,000.00

148,965.00

118,006.00

Louth

150,293.00

149,210.00

All Counties

492,000.00

489,352.00

The list of tourist-related projects undertaken in 1980 and 1981 was given in a reply to a question from Deputy O'Hanlon on 16 December 1981.

A total of £149,934 in grants was provided for craft industries in Donegal and Louth, 50 per cent of which was provided by the non-quota section of the European Regional Development Fund. Five hundred thousand pounds was allocated to Córas Tráchtála which provided marketing aids for small and medium sized industries, including craft industries, in all the Border counties.

No semi-State body benefits as such from the Border Areas Programme Fund. Moneys made available to semi-State bodies — Bord Fáilte, IDA, Údarás na Gaeltachta and Córas Tráchtála — are used for the purpose of distributing grants for tourist accommodation and the development of craft industries, for the creation of tourist related amenities and infrastructures and for the provision of marketing aids for small and medium-sized industries.

The list of 1983 projects has not yet been drawn up, apart from the following two new projects:—

(a) the provision of self-catering chalets at Killykeen Forest Park and

(b) a grant to the ESB towards the cost of providing a salmon smolt hatchery at Cathleen Falls on the River Erne.
