Vol. 340 No. 2

Written Answers. - National College of Art and Design.

294.

asked the Minister for Education if finance has been allocated in this year's estimates for the purchase of an additional site for the National College of Art and Design at Thomas Street, Dublin and for the completion of existing buildings there; and if she will make a statement on her Department's policy on the college.

Negotiations for the acquisition of an additional site for the National College of Art and Design are proceeding. My Department understand from the Higher Education Authority, which is the funding body for the college, that, provided an acceptable agreement is reached, the necessary funds will be allocated from the available resources.

Provision has been made in this year's estimates for the completion of the existing buildings.

My Department's policy towards the college is enshrined in the National College of Art and Design Act, 1971 and has been reflected in the priority which has been given in the capital programme to site acquisition, building and equipment.
