Vol. 340 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Eastern Region Services.

10.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will allocate extra funds in 1983 for roads, housing and other essential services in the eastern region with particular regard to the unique needs of this area, which has experienced massive population increases in the past ten years.

The allocation of funds in 1983 for roads, housing and other essential services will be made to the appropriate local authorities in the light of the provisions made for the various services in the public capital programme and the Department's Vote and with due regard to all relevant factors.

Having regard to the social and economic implications, if something along the lines suggested in the question is not done in the near future, would the Minister be prepared to make a submission to the EEC for further aid and to make a special case for funds from the social or development funds?

Yes, I would.
