asked the Minister for Justice the number of aliens refused entry to the Republic of Ireland for the year ended 31 December 1981 and for the period 1 January 1982 to 15 February 1983; and the grounds on which these aliens were refused entry to the Republic.

, Limerick East): The number of persons refused leave to land in the State in 1981, was 123, and, for the period 1 January 1982 to 15 February 1983 the number was 106.

The grounds on which an alien may be refused leave to land are set out in Article 5 of the Aliens Order, 1946 (inserted by Article 3 of the Aliens (Amendment) Order, 1975 (S.I. No. 128 of 1975)).

Particulars of the number of persons refused leave to land in the period mentioned (229), broken down by reference to the relevant paragraphs of Article 5 (2), which set out the various grounds on which a person may be refused leave to land, are as follows: (a) 78, (b) 12, (d) 6, (e) 28, (i) 6, and (j) 99.
