Vol. 341 No. 9

Written Answers . - Kerry Pier .

673.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the present position regarding the proposed construction of a pier in Cromane, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

674.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the present position regarding the proposed new pier for Cromane, County Kerry, as it is urgently required in view of the fact that ten large boats fish in the district.

: I propose to take Questions Nos. 673 and 674 together.

A scheme for improvement works at Cromane was drawn up in 1981 when my Department offered a 75 per cent State grant to Kerry County Council towards the cost involved. However, following the acquisition of a mussel dredger by the local co-operative society it was necessary to reconsider the suitability of the proposed scheme in order to ascertain the facility most suitable to the needs of all the fishermen. Following consultation with the fishermen a new scheme is now being drawn up for further discussion with the fishermen.
