Vol. 341 No. 9

Written Answers . - Kerry Harbour Marker Buoy .

677.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry when he intends to erect a radar reflectorised marker buoy at the entrance to Castlemaine Harbour adjacent to Cromane, County Kerry.

: My Department have no record of a request to erect a radar reflectorised marker buoy at the entrance to Castlemaine Harbour adjacent to Cromane. However, a request from the Kerry County Council for the provision of lighted marker buoys in the harbour between Inch and Rossbeigh Point has been fully examined. It is considered, however, that, because of the ever present possibility of movement of the sand bar, a permanent solid structure, which it is considered would be necessary for the effective use of flashing lights, would not be suitable and could in fact constitute a navigational hazard.

It has been suggested to the county council that they might consider arranging to have the channel marked with simple weighted marine orange-coloured buoys whose position could be adjusted easily in the event of any movement of the sand bar.
