Vol. 341 No. 9

Written Answers . - County Cork Temporary Postman .

710.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork was not retained as a temporary postman in Doneraile post office, Mallow area, County Cork, after his father's death; and if he will now consider appointing him.

: In accordance with longstanding policy to motorise rural postal deliveries, whenever it is feasible to do so economically, the part-time postman post at Doneraile, which became vacant last December, has been amalgamated with two other part-time posts to form a full-time motor post. In any event the person concerned would have had no entitlement to the post because of his relationship with the former occupant. His only periods of employment as temporary postman were for a total of 12 days up to 5 March 1982, well before the death of his father.
