Vol. 342 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Donegal Sewerage Scheme.

443.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that following court proceedings arising out of pollution of the River Ballaghdoo in Kilcar, County Donegal, a factory (details supplied) which is the main source of employment for Kilcar and Glencolumbcille parishes, will be forced to close unless a proper sewerage scheme is provided; whether he will grant the required funding to Donegal County Council to provide the scheme which has been with his Department since 1974 and for which a contribution of £15,000 has already been provided by Údarás na Gaeltachta; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

444.

asked the Minister for the Environment when plans for a sewerage scheme for Kilcar village, County Donegal, were first lodged with his Department; when funds will be made available to enable the scheme to proceed; if he is aware of the serious threat to jobs in the main source of employment in the area as a result of the absence of a sewerage scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 443 and 444 together. I have now approved the revised contract documents for the Kilcar sewerage scheme which were submitted to my Department in July 1981 and which will resolve the problem of effluent disposal in the Kilcar area. Donegal County Council may proceed to advertise for tenders for the scheme. The question of finance will not arise until a tender for the project is selected and approved.
