Vol. 342 No. 3

Written Answers. - Driving Test.

602.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that a person (details supplied) in County Limerick sent an application for a driving test together with a cheque to his Department on 15 October 1982; that he has not since been called for a test and that he has not received any acknowledgment to that letter or indeed to the other three letters which he wrote since then making inquiries; if he is further aware that the cheque was cashed by his Department on 26 October 1982; and if he will have an immediate inquiry made into the matter so that this person can be called for a test.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a driving test or of the other letters from a person having the name and address referred to by the Deputy. An application for a test was, however, received on 18 October 1982 from a person bearing the same surname but a different Christian name from that detailed in the question. The postal address was also different. Notification of an appointment for a test which was issued by my Department on 10 November 1982 was returned by the postal authorities marked "insufficient address".

Representations were received in the Department on 22 April 1983 which established this applicant's correct address. He has been notified of a driving test appointment for 16 May 1983.
