Vol. 342 No. 7

Written Answers. - Dublin Youth Unemployment.

678.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if he has any special proposals to deal with the high youth unemployment in Finglas and Ballymun, Dublin which has been estimated to be in excess of 50 per cent of those between 15 and 25 years.

I am informed that the Industrial Development Authority are vigorously promoting two advance factories —one of 42,000 sq. ft. and one of 25,000 sq. ft. — provided under a private finance arrangement at Poppintree, Finglas, for suitable industrial projects. I understand that the IDA's efforts are being seriously hindered by repeated vandalism to these premises.

The IDA also have a 20-acre site available for further industrial development at Poppintree. The Deputy will be aware that the Youth Employment Agency, which is not under the aegis of my Department, have national responsibility for furthering the employment of young people.
