asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the revenue he expects to accrue to the Exchequer in 1983 and 1984 from the recent Government decision to allow Bord Gáis Éireann to charge higher energy-related prices to the Electricity Supply Board for the use of natural gas.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 505 and 506 together. Estimated receipts from Bord Gáis Éireann in 1983 in respect of surplus profits to be surrendered under section 11 (2) of the Gas Act, 1976 are £63 million. A further payment will arise in respect of corporation tax on 1982 profits, the amount of this payment will be settled in the normal way.
The increase in natural gas prices to the ESB effective from 1 April 1983 will result in estimated extra Exchequer receipts from BGE of about £29.8 million in 1983. No estimate is available in respect of 1984 because the Government decision referred to was specific to the current year.
