Written Answers. - Council of Europe Recommendations.

asked the Minister for Foreigh Affairs the Government's response to Recommendation 62 (1983) from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on development co-operation and human rights; and the action his Department have taken to implement the recommendation.

The Committee of Ministers has referred Recommendation 962 to the steering committee for human rights for an opinion. On receipt of this opinion the recommendation will be examined and a decision will be taken on its implementation. My Department are giving careful study to the recommendation the main principles of which seem to be generally consonant with our policy in this field.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will give details of Ireland's response to Recommendation 958 (1983) from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, on environment policy in Europe; and if he will make a statement on the elements of the resolution which the Government intend to adopt.

Recommendation 958 will be examined at a forthcoming meeting of the Ministers' deputies in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. My Department, in consultation with competent Departments, are giving careful consideration to the various issues raised in the recommendation with a view to adopting a position thereon in the Committee of Ministers in due course.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will indicate Ireland's response to Recommendation 961 (1983) from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on aquaculture in Europe and the world; and if he will make a statement on the elements of the recommendation the Government intend to adopt.

Recommendation 961 on aquaculture is currently being given preliminary consideration by the Committee of Ministers. My Department are in consultation with the competent Department regarding the issues raised by the recommendation. In this context the interest and concern of the Parliamentary Assembly have been noted and will be borne in mind when adopting a final position on this matter.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will give details of Ireland's response to Recommendation 963 (1983) from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on cultural and educational means of reducing violence; and if he will make a statement on the elements of the recommendation which the Government intend to adopt.

Recommendation 963 is currently under examination in the Committee of Ministers. The steering committee for the development of sport has been asked to give an opinion on some of the issues raised therein. My Department are in consultation with competent Departments regarding the various and complex issues raised in this recommendation. In this context the concern of the Parliamentary Assembly has been carefully noted and will be borne in mind when adopting a position on the matter.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will give details of Ireland's response to Recommendation 964 (1983) on a European award for non-violence passed by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe; and if the Government have adopted the recommendation.

Recommendation 964 has not yet been examined by the Committee of Ministers. It will be considered at a forthcoming meeting of the Ministers' deputies. My Department, in consultation with competent Departments, are giving careful consideration to the matters raised in the recommendation with a view to adopting a position thereon in the committee of Ministers. In this context the concern of the Parliamentary Assembly has been carefully noted.
