Vol. 342 No. 10

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

607.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan who applied for a house improvement grant six years ago will receive the grant.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a house improvement grant under a former scheme from the person named.

608.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a home improvement grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan.

An inspection with a view to the payment of the grant approved will be carried out as soon as possible.

609.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a water and sewerage grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan.

Under the Housing Regulations 1980, (as amended), the latest date for receipt in the Department of notification of the completion of work and a claim for payment of a grant under the relevant scheme was 30 June 1981. As this requirement was not complied with in this case the balance of the grants approved cannot be paid.

610.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider the provision of a grant similar to the disabled person's reconstruction grant for disabled persons who purchase a new house.

I have no proposals to provide a special grant for disabled persons who purchase new houses since they are already eligible, subject to the usual conditions, for the £1,000 grant and the £3,000 mortgage subsidy.

The disabled persons' reconstruction grant is a measure introduced to assist with the costs of the special adaptation of houses to meet the needs of disabled persons (i.e. by the provision of wider doors, handrail on stairs, suitably located electrical outlets etc.). Generally such adaptations can be more easily provided in a new house than in an existing house and the same need for a special grant would not, accordingly, arise in the case of a new house.

611.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will arrange for the immediate payment of a new house grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

A grant will be paid when an inspection establishes that the house is satisfactorily completed and occupied and complies with all other conditions of the grant scheme.

The file in this case is with the Department's inspector for investigation and report with a view to payment of the grant.
