Vol. 342 No. 10

Written Answers. - Fishery Training College.

642.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will confirm arising out of a reply to Parliamentary Question No. 684, that all trainees coming out of the Greencastle training college are now employed by fishermen throughout the country, as his reply would seem to indicate that more trainees are employed on fishing vessels than the actual number trained in the college.

As stated in reply to Parliamentary Question No. 684 the number of young trainees currently working on fishing vessels is 146. Of these, 54 are now completing the final stages of the basic deckhand course on board vessels and are in receipt of training allowances. These 54 trainees will not be employed by boat owners until they have completed the 12 month course.
