Vol. 342 No. 10

Written Answers. - Medical Card Withdrawal.

706.

asked the Minister for Health the reason a medical card has been withdrawn from a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 who is also in receipt of British social security benefit and who is entitled to a medical card without reference to means under EEC regulations.

This medical card was issued originally on the grounds that the applicant was a social welfare contributory pensioner, aged over 66 years. When reviewing the cards held by this category of persons it was ascertained that his means substantially exceeded the guidelines.

This man held pensions from both the Irish and British social security services. Under EEC rules his eligibility is governed by his country of residence. He does not, therefore, qualify automatically for a medical card.
