Vol. 342 No. 11

Written Answers. - Teachers' Qualifications.

237.

asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that the trainee teachers in woodcraft, building and construction metal work in Thomond College, Limerick, will have a proper recognised qualification when they have completed their course.

The first groups of graduate teachers of wood and building technology and metalwork technology are due to graduate from Thomond College of Education, Limerick, in 1983, and successful graduates will be awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree by the National Council for Educational Awards.

Graduates who hold a degree in an appropriate area and a Ceardteastas Gaeilge will be recognised as teachers in Vocational, Comprehensive and Community Schools.

The Registration Council, which is the registration authority for teachers in secondary schools, has recently considered the question of acceptance of the courses for the purpose of the qualifications specified for teachers in secondary schools and a recommendation from the council will be made available at an early date.
