Vol. 343 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

794.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when payment of the 1982 cow suckler grant will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

The person named has been paid this grant already.

795.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when a grant for a brucellosis reactor sent to a meat factory by a person (details supplied) in County Limerick will be paid.

A brucellosis reactor from the herd of the person named was slaughtered in January 1979. At that time, reactor grants were not payable to herdowners in the then pre-intensive area which included County Limerick who failed to avail of the Department's free heifer vaccination scheme. Since the person named did not avail of the scheme, no grant was payable in his case.

796.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the serious implications for farmers who have applied for grants under the western drainage scheme in South Kerry during 1981 and 1982; if he will arrange for priority to be given to farmers who intend to proceed immediately with their drainage schemes and reclamation work as against farmers who do not intend to carry out the work immediately; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Applications under the western drainage scheme are being processed strictly in order of receipt. A recent survey has shown that applications received up to 30 September 1981 can be accommodated within the ceiling of 150,000 hectares provided for in the scheme but it may not be possible to accommodate applications received after that date. Consideration is being given to how best to deal with such applications in the light of the present economic and budgetary position.

797.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will expedite the payment of the rescue package scheme to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

The administration of the reduced interest scheme for farmers in severe financial difficulty is wholly a matter for the associated banks and the ACC. The individual concerned should address his inquiries direct to the lending agency in question.

798.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when payment for guidance premiums under the farm modernisation scheme will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

Payment of guidance premiums in this case is awaiting a communication from ACOT regarding applicant's farm accounts.

799.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange to pay a grant for suckler cows to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny as it is owed for some time.

When investigations now in train in this case are completed, a decision will be made on whether or not suckler cow premium for 1982 can be paid.

800.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange to pay a grant under the farm modernisation scheme to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny as the work has been inspected and passed since last December.

The local office of the Department has not yet been notified by the applicant that the work has been completed. When notification is received, a final inspection will be carried out and if the work is satisfactorily completed and provided that the other conditions of the scheme have been complied with, the grant will be paid without delay.

801.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will recommend to the Land Commission to acquire the Cosgrove estate, Cloughballymore, County Galway which has recently been offered for sale.

The Land Commission have no proposals for the acquisition of this holding.
