Vol. 343 No. 1

Written Answers. - Course Status.

825.

asked the Minister for Education the status the course in rural and general science introduced by Thomond College of Education, Limerick in 1979 will have; if she is aware that students who enrolled in 1979 were led to believe that they would qualify for a B. Sc. degree; if she will take appropriate steps to ensure that these students have not been misled; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The first group of graduate teachers of general and rural science, who entered the college in 1979, are due to graduate from Thomond College of Education, Limerick in 1983, and successful graduates will be awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree by the National Council for Educational Awards.

I am not aware that students were led to believe that they would qualify for a Bachelor of Science Degree on completion of the course. I understand from the college authorities that the course was not advertised at any stage as a B.Sc. course.
