Vol. 343 No. 1

Written Answers. - Drogheda Tenant Purchase Scheme.

553.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has any plans to agree to the sale of small dwellings to married couples at Rathmullen Park, Drogheda, County Louth, under the next tenant purchase scheme.

I understand that the dwellings in question were purpose-built for the accommodation of elderly persons and they consequently appear to come within the scope of directions given by my predecessors requiring housing authorities to exclude dwellings specifically provided for elderly and disabled persons from their tenant purchase schemes. Having regard to the continuing need to provide for the special needs of elderly and disabled persons, I consider it undesirable that any action should be taken which would result in the loss of such dwellings from the local authority housing stock. Consequently, I do not propose to revoke the existing directions in the matter.
