Vol. 343 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Dublin Hospital Development.

701.

asked the Minister for Health if his Department has any plans to develop an outpatients and maternity unit in James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown, County Dublin to cater for the rapidly expanding population in the area.

The development of the out-patient facilities at James Connolly Memorial Hospital, is at present being planned.

It has also been accepted that there is need for another maternity unit on the north side of the Liffey. Accordingly it has been agreed with the board of James Connolly Memorial Hospital that a 45-bed obstetric unit be provided there.

Both these developments are part of the overall plan to develop the hospital as an acute general hospital of 500 beds, to meet the needs of the expanding population of the area. The planning brief for the project, being prepared by a project team representative of the Department and the hospital, is nearing completion.
