Vol. 343 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Death.

702.

asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement regarding the death of a person (details supplied) in Dublin while in hospital; and if he will now reply to representations in this matter made by Deputy Gay Mitchell almost three months ago.

The Deputy is aware that an inquest was held into the death of the patient in question on 26 January 1983. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence that death occurred due to a brain haemorrhage caused by an injury to the head due to a fall.

The Deputy, in his letter of 14 February 1983 asked me to arrange for an investigation into specific matters relating to the patient's death. I have asked the Eastern Health Board for a full report on these matters and I will be in contact with the Deputy when I have the board's report.
