Vol. 343 No. 6

Written Answers. - Presidential Election Date.

631.

asked the Minister for the Environment the date on which the next Presidential election will be held.

The Constitution requires that a presidential election must take place within 60 days of the date of expiration of the term of office of the President. The President's term of office expires on 2 December 1983, and under the provisions of the Presidential Elections Act, 1937, the Minister for the Environment must make an order appointing the date of poll (if any) on or as soon as conveniently may be after the sixtieth day before that date.
