Vol. 343 No. 6

Written Answers. - Kerry Water Supply Scheme.

654.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the very poor quality of Templenoe water supply scheme; and if he will arrange with Kerry County Council to have it filtered.

I understand from Kerry County Council that the quality of water supplied by the Templenoe water supply scheme can sometimes be discoloured due to flooding affecting the source — which is located in an upland peaty catchment. The initiative in taking measures to overcome the problem rests with the local authority, and I understand they hope to improve the supply by connecting to the Kenmare water supply under their small schemes programme. No proposals have been submitted to my Department by the County Council in the matter.
