Vol. 343 No. 6

Written Answers. - FCA Officers' Promotion.

664.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state in regard to the FCA officers who were gazetted in January 1978 as second-lieutenant (a) the promotion dates to the rank of full lieutenant for the Southern, Western, Eastern and Curragh commands; (b) the reasons for the disparity in dates between the commands; (c) whether he is prepared, in respect of such officers who were graded satisfactory in prior annual confidential reports, who had the necessary hours and who attended the required amount of annual training in the years 1979, 1980 and 1981, to bring forward their promotion date to a date not earlier than 13 January 1982, as opposed to June 1982 as occurred in the case of Eastern Command officers; and (d) if he will make a statement on the matter.

In accordance with normal practice, the promotion of officers of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil is processed separately for each command.

Officers of An Fórsa who were appointed to commissioned rank in January, 1978 were promoted to the rank of lieutenant as follows:

Curragh

15 March and 1 June

Command

1982

Eastern

23 June 1982

Command

Southern

13 July 1982

Command

There were no appointments to commissioned rank in An Fórsa in the Western Command in January 1978.

While the minimum period of service in the rank of second-lieutenant required for promotion to the rank of lieutenant in An Fórsa is 4 years, the actual period of service will vary to allow for completion of the necessary military administrative arrangements.
