Vol. 343 No. 7

Written Answers. - Lead-Free Petrol.

339.

asked the Minister for the Environment the cost of requiring lead-free petrol in this country by 1985; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

With regard to the introduction of legislation on the sale of lead-free petrol, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his question of 17 May 1983. As stated in that reply, certain studies of the lead content of petrol in this country are at present under way. Pending completion of these, it will not be possible to quantify the cost implications of moving to lead-free petrol.
