611.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that the Clifden manual telephone exchange, County Galway, is under strength; and the action he proposes to take in the matter.

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 609 to 611, inclusive, together.

I am aware that there has been some delay in answering telephone calls at Clifden exchange, mainly due to staff absences. Arrangements have been made to assign some extra telephonists to Clifden telephone exchange and more will be assigned, as the traffic warrants it. In addition, a new radio-link between Clifden and Galway is due in service within the next few weeks which will give an improved service to subscribers in the Clifden area.
