The latest year for which information is available is 1982.
The total population was estimated at 3,483,000 in April 1982. In the following table the information available on the estimated labour force by broad sector for mid-April 1982 is set out. The estimates are for persons aged 15 years and over.

It is not possible to identify the "tourist industry" as a separate sector in compiling these estimates. In January 1983, the latest date for which the information is available, there were some 66,000 persons at work in semi-State bodies.
