Vol. 344 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Wexford Garda Houses.

908.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will agree to allow the tenants of the four Garda houses at Pondfields, New Ross, County Wexford, to purchase these houses as their state of repair is deteriorating every day and may soon be a burden on his Department.

Limerick East): Official Garda houses such as those at Pondfields, New Ross, County Wexford, are provided by the State in order to obviate the difficulty which members of the force might otherwise have in securing accommodation when transferred from one centre to another. If these houses were to be sold to the members in occupation they would cease to be available to newly transferred members. I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the four houses at Pondfields are required for official purposes and, consequently, cannot be sold to the members occupying them.

The maintenance of official Garda houses is a matter for the Office of Public Works and it is understood from that office that they will shortly be commencing a scheme of remedical works for the houses at Pondfields which will include the repair of windows and redecoration.
