Vol. 344 No. 3

Written Answers. - Wandering Horses.

909.

asked the Minister for Justice the action he intends to take in relation to the problem of wandering horses whose owners cannot be traced; and when he intends to take action in this regard.

Limerick East): The problem to which the Deputy refers arises particularly in certain areas of Dublin and Limerick and I am in communication with the local authorities concerned with a view to the improvement of their pound facilities.

In so far as legislation is concerned, I have under examination the draft Animals Bill prepared by the Law Reform Commission. The proposals in that Bill were, however, intended to cover only certain aspects of the problem and I am consulting with the Tánaiste and Minister for the Environment on certain other proposals which I hope will help to deal effectively with the nuisance of wandering horses in urban areas.
