A life table is a method of deriving measures which are representative of average life expectancy prevailing at a given time. Over a given period changes in life expectancy will vary for the sexes and also for different ages. Eight life tables have been constructed relating to different periods between 1926 and 1971. The following table shows the expectation of life at various ages and by sex for these life tables.
