Vol. 344 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Dublin Sub-Post Offices.

779.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has any plans to provide a sub-post office at Aylesbury shopping centre, Tallaght, County Dublin.

The post office at Tallaght village is within a mile of Aylesbury Shopping Centre and is considered to be adequate to cater for present postal needs. However, the need for additional post offices in the Tallaght area, including Aylesbury, will be kept under review as further development takes place.

780.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the progress being made to provide a sub-post office at Bawnogues, Clondalkin, County Dublin.

As I mentioned previously, a sub-post office can only be established in the Bawnogue area of Clondalkin, County Dublin, when a suitable candidate with satisfactory premises in a central location is forthcoming. Applications were invited on a number of occasions the most recent being May 1983 but no applicant was forthcoming. Canvasses of the area have also been carried out without success. It is intended to advertise the vacancy again later this year.

781.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the progress being made to provide a sub-post office at Brookfield, Tallaght, County Dublin.

782.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the location of the new sub-post office which is planned for the Springfield/Tallaght area of County Dublin; and when service will be available.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 781 and 782 together. I recently sanctioned the appointment of a post-master for the Jobstown and adjoining areas of Tallaght and the appointee is due to take up duty in the near future. The new sub-post office will be located at Kilclare Avenue and will cater for the residents of the Brookfield and Springfield estates.

783.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the new sub-post office at Kilnamanagh shopping centre, Dublin, will be available for service.

It is expected that the new sub-post office at Kilnamanagh will open for business in about a month's time.
