I understand fully the frustration felt at the delay in providing telephones. Regrettably, however, it will not be possible to meet this application until necessary additional engineering work is carried out.

The objective of the Department's current telephone development programme is to provide a fully satisfactory telephone service nationally in terms of both quality and availability by the end of 1984 and it is expected that service will be provided for the person named within the next year or so.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the undue and annoying delay in answering ‘10' telephone calls particularly late at night in Cork County; and the proposals, if any, he has to remedy this matter.

I am aware that there have been delays in answering calls at night at the three exchanges, Bantry, Cork and Skibbereen, where ‘10' operator services are provided in County Cork. Additional operator staff have recently been provided at Bantry and it is planned to provide additional operator staff at Cork and Skibbereen in the next week or so. The provision of this additional staff should greatly improve the position.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will as a matter of urgency provide a telephone service for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford who is a contractor and needs service for business purposes.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will correct the telephone account of a person (details supplied), in County Wexford, about which he has been in touch with his Department on two occasions without eliciting any reply.

A reply issued to this subscriber on 21 June 1983. The account was checked and found to be in order. The charges had therefore to be maintained.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Kerry who paid her deposit some time ago.

An application for telephone service was cancelled at the request of the person named.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange as a matter of urgency to provide a public telephone kiosk in Upper Glencar, County Kerry, from where people must travel nine miles to the nearest telephone; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Arrangements are in hand to survey the Upper Glencar area to establish whether a telephone kiosk is warranted there. The Deputy will be communicated with as soon as possible after the results of the survey become available.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when it is proposed to repair the public telephone situated at Beechhill, Donnybrook, Dublin 4, as a telephone service is urgently required by many residents.
