Vol. 344 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Cork Pension Arrears.

994.

asked the Minister for Justice when a widow's pension and arrears will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork as they are outstanding for a long time.

Limerick East): I am informed by the Paymaster General's Office, who arrange for the payment of Garda widows' pensions, that a payable order representing the initial payment of pension and arrears was issued on 31 May 1983 but the pensioner concerned has notified them that she did not receive the payable order. It has been confirmed that the payable order was cashed and, in the circumstances, the Paymaster General's Office have written to her with a view to clarifying the matter.

Earlier there had been a delay in the award of the pension because a death certificate was not available pending the holding of an inquest. The difficulty that had arisen was resolved when the matter was brought to my Department's notice.
