asked the Minister for Justice if he will allow a prisoner (details supplied) in County Laois to visit his mother who is in Musgrave Park Hospital suffering from two strokes and who according to doctors is deteriorating rapidly.

Limerick East): As has been explained on other cases, it is not the practice for Ministers for Justice to say publicly, either in response to parliamentary questions or otherwise, whether or when a prisoner may be released on compassionate grounds or for other reasons. In the particular case referred to in the question it is public knowledge that there are very exceptional considerations which create difficulties beyond the normal.
