Vol. 344 No. 7

Written Answers. - Post-Primary School Curriculum.

1004.

asked the Minister for Education if the teaching of religious education has been affected by the recent staffing cutbacks, particularly in the smaller post-primary schools; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

1005.

asked the Minister for Education if the cutback in staffing for post primary schools had any effect on the curriculum being offered by the schools concerned; and, if so, the provisions being made for students in the senior cycle in these schools.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 1004 and 1005 together. The revised staffing arrangements for post primary schools will not take effect until the commencement of the next school year. I do not accept the implications in the questions that the implementation of the new regulations will result in undue difficulty in the formulation of school time-tables for the purpose of including suitable provision for the subjects on the curriculum of the schools.
