Vol. 344 No. 7

Written Answers. - Forestry Cable Extraction.

742.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if his Department have any plans for the greater use of cable extraction in forests under the control of his Department.

The Forest and Wildlife Service use cable extraction in the harvesting of timber on sites where the operation of more economic extraction systems is not feasible. The extent to which the use of the cable system may be extended in future will depend on the terrain of the sites where extraction operations will arise and the indications are that there will be increasing extractions from such sites in the years ahead.
