Vol. 344 No. 8

Written Answers. - Consultants Selection.

544.

asked the Minister for Health when the working party report on the common selection procedure for consultants will be available; and if he will make a statement on how he proposes to have their findings implemented.

Priority is at present being given to implementing the common contract for consultants. When this has been achieved the working party will proceed to finalise its report on the common selection procedure. I am not, therefore, at this stage, in a position to indicate when the working party's report on this issue will be available.

Following consideration of the working party's recommendations and consultation with the employing authorities I will bring draft regulations before the Oireachtas for approval. When that has been obtained, the regulations which will then be made will form the statutory basis of the new selection procedure.
