Vol. 344 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Galway Group Sewerage Scheme.

580.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will have a full investigation carried out by his Department into the delays which were caused in the course of the planning of the Tully group sewerage scheme, County Galway; if he will establish the reason for the delay; and if he will examine the possibility of making extra finance available to the group in view of the fact that they have been held up by Galway County Council since his Department sanctioned grants in April, 1981.

Revised plans for the Tully group sewerage scheme were technically cleared by my Department and copies were forwarded to Galway County Council for their approval in May 1981. Formal notification of the position has not been received from Galway County Council. However, I understand that the local health inspector has reported that the site proposed in the design is unsuitable for the discharge of effluent and that the scheme is being further examined by the council's engineering staff. The economics of the scheme will be examined when the design problems are fully resolved.
