Vol. 344 No. 8

Written Answers. - Sligo Leitrim Industries.

613.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the steps he is taking to secure industry and thereby provide employment in the many vacant IDA factories in Counties Sligo and Leitrim.

I am informed by the IDA that an American company have decided to establish a project to produce gear wheels in the 50,000 sq. ft. IDA advance factory in Sligo town. The company expects to employ 50 people by late autumn with further jobs being provided as the project develops.

The IDA have a total of 122,500 sq. ft. of factory space remaining at four locations, 120 acres of land in five locations in the county and two cluster units of 3,000 sq. ft. each in Sligo town which are being actively promoted for industrial development. The IDA also plan to commence construction of 3 x 1,000 sq. ft. small industry incubator units at Sligo town and 3 x 1,000 sq. ft. small industry units in Tubbercurry later this year.

Highline Products Ltd. commenced production of glass fibre street lighting and transmission poles in the IDA's 25,000 sq. ft. advance factory in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim in April last and plan to employ 21 people by the end of the year.

The IDA have a total of 32,800 sq. ft. of advance factory space available at three locations and 100 acres of land at seven locations in Co. Leitrim. In addition the IDA have two cluster units of 3,000 sq. ft. each at Manorhamilton and 2 cluster units of 3,000 sq. ft. each at Carrick-on-Shannon.

The facilities available in Counties Sligo and Leitrim are being actively promoted for suitable industrial projects and will be of major assistance to the IDA in attracting new projects to these areas.
