asked the Minister for Health if he intends to provide any increase in the allowances at present payable to disabled persons who are in homes and institutions as the present allowance of £5 per week is grossly inadequate; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have increased the rate of allowances payable to persons in long stay institution by 20 per cent from 1 July 1983.

I have increased the rate of disabled persons maintenance allowance by 12 per cent from the last week in June 1983.
