Mr. Kirk

andMr. Faulkner asked the Minister for Agriculture (a) the number of holdings in County Louth in the possession of the Land Commission; (b) the total area of land involved; (c) the names of the estates; (d) the dates of acquisition of the estates; and (e) when he proposes to allocate them.

Apart from a house plot comprising 0.218 hectares which it is hoped will be disposed of in the next few months, the Land Commission have no lands in their possession in County Louth.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the list of priorities in respect of the allocation of Land Commission estates.

When assessing the claims of competing applicants seeking land, the Land Commission take a number of factors into account. Chiefly these would be farming competence and capacity to work additional land, the size of the applicant's holding and its distance from the land being divided, personal and family circumstances and degree of dependence on farming for a living.

All these factors are considered as a whole and no one of them would be necessarily decisive in determining the success or failure of any individual application.

asked the Minister for Agriculture (i) the number of farms in the hands of the Land Commission in County Westmeath; (ii) the total acreage of these lands; (iii) the length of time they have been in the hands of the Land Commission; and (iv) when it is proposed to allocate them.

The information requested is set out in the following table. It is not possible to indicate when all the properties listed will be divided but it is hoped that those estates marked with an asterisk will be wholly or partly allotted by the end of the year.
