Vol. 344 No. 8

Written Answers. - Headage Payments.

673.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the number of applicants in County Galway affected by the budgetary measure to reduce the qualifying income limits for persons in off-farm employment applying for headage opayments under the severely handicapped areas scheme.

About 3,500 applicants in all disadvantaged areas will be affected by the budgetary measures referred to but because of differences in the incidence of off-farm employment from county to county, however, it is not possible to give reliable figures for the number of applicants that will be affected in Galway or any other particular county.

674.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when he intends to have inspections completed in Counties Sligo and Leitrim for all cattle and sheep headage grant schemes i.e. cattle and sheep headage grants, calf subsidies, suckler grants etc.

It is hoped that sheep inspections in the two counties mentioned will be completed within the next week or so and cattle inspections by about the end of October.
