Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

242.

asked the Minister for the Environment the up-to-date position regarding the provision of a group water scheme for Kiltallagh, Castlemaine, County Kerry.

243.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in sanctioning the Kiltallagh group water scheme, County Kerry.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 242 and 243 together.

Survey sheets in respect of the proposed Kiltallagh group water scheme, which will cater for approximately 54 houses, were received in my Department on 1 March 1983. I understand that the group is having the necessary design prepared for submission to my Department and to the Kerry County Council. While it is not possible to say at this stage when work will commence on the group scheme the intention is that the group scheme will be served from the Castlemaine regional water supply scheme.

I am happy to say that I approved contract documents for the Castlemaine regional scheme on 5 May 1983 thus clearing the way for Kerry County Council to seek tenders for the construction of the regional scheme. I have also designated the regional scheme for an 80 per cent grant under the western package of aid from the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund (FEOGA); this will reduce the local authority's share of the cost of that scheme to half of what it would otherwise be.

244.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is prepared to sanction the allocation of funds to facilitate the connection of Droichead Nua sewerage system to the treatment plant at Osberstown in County Kildare.

I have recently approved the contract documents for the Upper Liffey valley sewerage scheme, stage 1, phase 2, which will link Droichead Nua, Sallins and Clane with the Osberstown Treatment Works. Kildare County Council have been asked to arrange for the seeking of tenders at an early date.

The question of making funds available for the scheme will not arise until the council have submitted details of recommended civil works and plant tenders, together with an appropriate loan application to my Department.
