Vol. 345 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant and Mortgage Subsidy Payments.

179.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will investigate the circumstances of the non-payment of an improvement grant of £600 which was approved for a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a house improvement grant from the person named.

180.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reasons a new house grant has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and the date on which it will be paid.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a new house grant from the person named.

181.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a £1,000 new house grant and a mortgage subsidy will be paid to a person (details supplied) in Galway.

A new house grant and a mortgage subsidy have been approved in this case. The file is with the inspector for investigation and report with a view to payment of the grant.

Payment of the first instalment of the mortgage subsidy will be made when the grant is paid and the applicant submits the appropriate claim form.

182.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a final inspection will be carried out in respect of a grant application for a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

A new house grant and a mortgage subsidy have been approved in this case. An inspection with a view to payment of the grant will be arranged when the applicant notifies my Department that his house is complete and occupied.

Payment of the first instalment of the mortgage subsidy will be made when the grant is paid and the applicant submits the appropriate claim form.

183.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applicants who have had their applications for new house grants refused because they did not apply within the period of one year of occupying their new residence; if he will sympathetically consider such applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is a statutory condition that an application for a new house grant must be received in my Department within a year of occupation of the house and I have no power to waive that condition. The requirement is clearly set out in the memorandum which is supplied to all intending grant applicants.

The information requested in relation to the number of applications rejected because of failure by the applicants to apply within the time limit is not readily available in my Department. While the records kept relate, in part, to rejected applications these are not segregated on the basis of grounds for rejection. With the available staff resources it would not be possible to have the required information extracted without seriously affecting the existing heavy volume of day-to-day work.

184.

asked the Minister for the Environment when the second payment under the mortgage subsidy scheme will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

The second instalment of the mortgage subsidy will be paid as soon as possible.
